VistaTek’s President, Danny Mishek, pushed away social media last New Year’s (2021) and found he had a little extra time. With that time, he read a few books and he also wrote a book that was published. He created The Christmas Tree Story, which reflects the tradition of decorating the Christmas tree.
Earth Day has become more than a day for VistaTek and SelfEco. It has become daily lifestyle. We continue to in-house compost, recycle and continue to reduce our waste. Employees are using reusable ceramic coffee mugs, bringing reusable packaging from home and we are adding a continuous improvement fund from the money we get back from recycling our aluminum, steel and plastics.

My crystal ball was not seeing that 4th quarter of last year, we all would hate plastic straws. From the articles that I read, the straws were the reason we had unrest in the Middle East, immigration issues on our borders and why Lebron and the Lakers didn’t make it to the NBA Playoffs. Without straws, we would have had world peace.
As VistaTek continues to grow, sustainability remains a top priority. The goal to be a landfill free facility is an audacious one, but is seemingly becoming more attainable each day. VistaTek entered into an agreement with a local recycler/compounder of petroleum products. The decision to collect, regrind and store our runners, scrap and overruns has been beneficial.
With our open door policy for customers to come in and visit us, VistaTek receives compliments on our cleanliness. With new certification requirements in the last few years, we decided to get tested for ISO Class 9 Cleanroom. After being tested in 25+ locations, our production floor passed and we are an approved Class 9 cleanroom.
After more than 20 years of ownership by the Mishek family, VistaTek announces that the Andrews family has acquired a 50 percent ownership of the manufacturing company. The ownership change brings a renewed focus on innovation to the company, while day-to-day operations remain the same to maintain the existing focus to serve customers effectively.
As a business owner and a manufacturer, I feel we need to fight for the limelight. There are so many sexier things to talk about or highlight than manufacturing in today’s society. Between a POTUS tweet or a Kardashian Instagram post, how can we get attention on us? Well, this story is not about manufacturing, but what happened within manufacturing over the last 16 years that should remind people of hope that good people and good work are still at the forefront of today.
Twenty years with VistaTek this month and manufacturing continues to amaze me with its excitement, experience and opportunities. Through it all I have seen four different U.S. Presidents, the enhancement of data transfer and engineering software, the birth of #SocialMedia and the end of fax machines, to name a few. So, where do I start? A blog probably shouldn’t be that long, so I will just hit a few of the highlights. Buckle up, it has been one hell of a ride.
For the injection molding industry, VistaTek has been notified by our resin suppliers that PP, and HDPE production has been suspended (Force Majeure Declaration) for the short term by INEOS, Formosa, LynodellBassel, and others due to Hurricane Harvey in Houston. Please stay tuned. This will most likely affect availability of these resins through the 3rd quarter.
It was brought to my attention by one of my customers that John Bozzelli has public seminars in Chicago and Detroit area, but not the Minneapolis area. Since John is the leader in Scientific Molding, and getting close to retirement age it would be great to have him local and learn from his vast knowledge before he retires and all this knowledge is gone.
VistaTek continues to bridge the gap between real world manufacturing and the academia world. Students at the University of Minnesota had created a new product that was part of the fidget phenomenon. They had a great concept with perfect timing. They just needed a little love regarding the manufacturing and the design to make it manufacturable at a competitive price.

What do you mean it can't be injection molded?"We hear this day in and day out. 3D Printing is fantastic, it gives everybody from 2nd graders to degreed engineers the ability to manufacture whatever they imagine. Unfortunately, it gives users the false sense of success for future manufacturing.
